Here at the Colfax Public Library, we love books - we'd better, because we're surrounded by them! I'm sure you all have specific memories attached to your favorite tomes: how it felt to cry when Charlotte died in E.B. White's Charlotte's Web, the agonizing empathy you felt for Charley in Flowers for Algernon, how you couldn't stop reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for a moment, not even to eat. How A Prayer for Owen Meany made you giggle. How Glass Castle made you grateful for your own family. We're excited to offer up our some of our recent favorites - be sure to share yours with us when you come in!

Lisa recomends:

I Started All This; the Life of Dr. William Worrall Mayo by Judith Hartzell. This biography chronicles the life and times of the "little" country doctor who eventually became the patriarch of the Mayo Clinic.

Accidents of Providence by Stacia M. Brown. Gripping historical fiction set in the mid-seventeeth century, the story centers on Rachel Lockyer, an unmarried glove maker locked in a secret affair. When a child is found buried in the woods, Rachel is put on trial and must defend herself against a lawyer for the prosecution hell-bent on making an example of her.

Charis recommends:

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. The lush imagery in this book will make you wish there really was a circus that showed up unnanounced in the middle of the night. A pair of gifted magicians become star-crossed lovers against a backdrop of carnival freaks and all of their trappings.

My Father's Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family and Togetherness by Gwyneth Paltrow. Though Paltrow's self-styled life guru act can be off-putting, she's compiled a cookbook full of simple, fresh recipes. The library is a great place to "try before you buy" - especially when it comes to cookbooks, as they can be expensive.

Bossy Pants by Tina Fey. If you're a Fey fan, you'll be in hog heaven. If not, you may be converted by the time you finish the first page. A very smart lady, Fey's complete willingness to play the fool (she includes photos of her 6th grade haircut) is what sets her apart.
