Kids & Family

On February 1st, we read about the circus, noshed on popcorn and animal crackers and made hats so that we could be clowns for the day!

New Youth Services Librarian

Charis Collins, Youth Services Librarian

Hi all! My name is Charis Collins and I'm your new Youth Services Librarian at the Colfax Public Library. I got my degree in English and love books of all kinds. On a given day you might find me with my nose in anything from The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks to Shakespeare to a cookbook specializing in scones. I've been a huge fan of YA and Juvenile Literature ever since I was very pregnant with my son Owain and needed a diversion. Thankfully my husband - who is an 8th grade English teacher - rode to the rescue, introducing me to books like Harris & Me, The Good Thief and Sunshine Rider. I was hooked. You'll find I know Hagrid from Hermione and am as excited for the Hunger Games movie as anyone out there. My favorite children's book is Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. To this day, I get choked up every time I read it.

I live on a 35-acre farm about 10 miles North of Colfax along with my husband and son, my sister and her family, a dozen chickens, three horses, and four Icelandic sheep (more after lambing this spring!). I will be shooting a short film I wrote called North Passage this Spring/Summer. Please take a moment to introduce yourself when you come in, and feel free to make any suggestions - particularly regarding programs for teens. I'm excited to continue with Story time for preschool children on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and the Summer Library Program for emerging readers on Wednesdays, July 11 - August 1 from 10:30 to noon. I look forward to seeing you!
